How to reach Mukteshwar from Delhi: road, train and air

Plan your trip18 Sep 2026Updated 28 Sep 2026By the The Rare One’s team, Tapovan

Mukteshwar is roughly 340 to 350 km from Delhi. There is no railway station or airport in the hills, so every route ends with a drive up from the plains through Kathgodam and Haldwani. Here are the three ways to do it, with the timings our guests actually see.

By road: 8 to 9 hours

The usual route runs Delhi → Moradabad → Rampur → Haldwani → Kathgodam → Bhowali → Ramgarh → Mukteshwar. The first part is on fast highways across the plains; the last 70 km or so climbs through the hills and takes 2.5 to 3 hours on its own.

  • Leave Delhi early (5 or 6 AM) to beat the traffic and do the hill section in daylight.
  • Stop for a meal in Rampur or Haldwani; there are fewer options once you start climbing.
  • From Bhowali, the road winds through the orchards of Ramgarh, one of the prettiest drives in Kumaon.
  • Carry something for motion sickness if anyone in the car needs it.

By train to Kathgodam

Kathgodam is the nearest railhead and the end of the line. The Kathgodam Shatabdi runs from New Delhi in the morning, and there are overnight trains too, so you can arrive fresh. From Kathgodam station it is roughly 2.5 to 3 hours by taxi to Mukteshwar. We can arrange a cab to meet you at the station; just send us your train details.

By air to Pantnagar

Pantnagar is the nearest airport, around three hours away by road, with a limited number of flights. Many travellers find the train to Kathgodam just as quick overall, and more reliable in winter fog.

From Nainital, Bhimtal or Haldwani

If you’re already in the hills, Mukteshwar is an easy drive. See Nainital to Mukteshwar: distance and route.

The last stretch to The Rare One’s

We are at Chaukhuta, a few kilometres beyond Mukteshwar town. Call us when you reach Mukteshwar and we’ll guide you in. Cars stop on the road just below the resort; the last stretch is a short, steep walk, so pack light and tell us your arrival time. Planning a short break? See our weekend plan from Delhi.
