Mukteshwar is far enough from Delhi to feel like a real escape and close enough for a long weekend. Here’s the plan we suggest to guests coming up for two nights. First, how to get here.
Before you go
- Book early for long weekends and holidays; Mukteshwar has far fewer rooms than Nainital.
- Decide between driving and the train to Kathgodam. Driving gives you freedom for day trips; the train is less tiring.
- Pack a warm layer whatever the season.
Day 1: the drive up
Leave Delhi by 6 AM, or take the morning train to Kathgodam. Stop for lunch in Haldwani or Bhowali, and reach the resort by late afternoon. Settle into your Swiss camp, room or cottage, then sit out with tea as the light turns gold over the valleys. Dinner at the restaurant, then step outside: away from city lights, the stars are something else.
Day 2: temple, cliffs and waterfall
Go up to Mukteshwar Dham early for the clearest view, walk across to Chauli ki Jali, and have a late breakfast in town. In the afternoon, walk down to Bhalu Gaad waterfall, or skip it for the pool and game zone. Spend the evening on the deck watching the lights come on across the valley.
Day 3: slow morning, drive back
Breakfast with the view, a last walk through the forest, and leave by late morning to reach Delhi in the evening. Stop at the fruit stalls in Bhowali on the way down for jams and juices from the orchards.
Got a third night?
Add a day trip to Kainchi Dham, the lakes of Nainital and Bhimtal, or the orchards of Ramgarh.
